Giménez agrees to Porto move as Milan hold out over the details

Porto are pushing hard to sign Santiago Giménez, with the deal for the Milan striker now hinging on the two clubs agreeing a formula.

According to Milannews.it, Giménez had already been earmarked as a certain departure this summer, a status cemented by Milan’s club-record signing of Gonçalo Ramos.

Unlike last year, when the Mexican fought to stay, he has now accepted his fate, indeed, he has already given his full approval to a move to Porto, where coach Francesco Farioli, who knew him from their time in the Netherlands, is keen to bring him in.

Loan formula the sticking point in Milan & Porto talks

The two clubs are working to bridge the gap on how the deal is structured. Porto are pushing for a loan with a buy option set at around €20m, whereas the Serie A side want a conditional obligation to buy, the Rossoneri seeking certainty over his exit and, crucially, enough to avoid registering a book loss on a player they signed from Feyenoord for over €30m.

There is a further wrinkle: Porto’s move is understood to depend in part on selling Rodrigo Mora, a deal that would in turn advance Roma’s own pursuit of the teenager, linking three clubs in a chain of transfers.

Giménez is far from the only Rossoneri player on the way out. Youssouf Fofana has admirers in the Premier League and LaLiga, Samuele Ricci is liked by Atalanta, and Filippo Terracciano is tracked by Udinese and Monza, while Cissè is set for a loan at Torino and Fikayo Tomori is seeking a new club.

Owner Gerry Cardinale is due at Milanello for a market summit with Rúben Amorim, as the Rossoneri accelerate their clear-out, a process from which Rafael Leão, who took to Instagram to shut down speculation over his future, increasingly looks likely to be exempt.
