Coming out of their Week 8 bye, the New York Giants will face off against the Philadelphia Eagles in the final game before the NFL trade deadline.

With the Giants clearly in pursuit of additions, like defensive line and running back help, a win over the Eagles to get to 5-2-1 would be a huge boost of confidence in the team this season.

However, this Eagles matchup might prove difficult, as NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that Cam Skattebo, despite having the bye to rest up, is trending towards missing Week 9 as he deals with a hamstring injury.

Cam Skattebo trending towards being out for Eagles game

“It does not seem, as of right now, that Cam Skattebo will be out there on the field for them this week,” Rapoport reports.

This is not a good update for the Giants for obvious reasons. Skattebo getting ruled out right after he seemingly found his groove in Week 7 against the Houston Texans would be a shame.

But it’s especially worrying for the Giants, considering Najee Harris has been cut, and Tyrone Tracy Jr. is on injured reserve. That would leave only Devin Singletary as the Giants’ healthy running back for Week 9.

Skattebo is not looking likely to play for the Giants in Week 9 against the NFC East rival Eagles. While the Giants should be able to beat the Eagles without Skattebo, as Philadelphia has a ton of their own issues, not having their lead back is tough.

J.J. McCarthy and the Giants are going to have to rely more heavily on Malik Nabers and Isaiah Likely in this one if Skattebo is out, which looks likely to be the case as of Friday morning.

This Skattebo injury only makes the Giants’ rumored interest in Jonathan Taylor make more sense. The Giants are not sold on Skattebo, so Taylor to New York makes plenty of sense.

While a trade for this week is unlikely to happen, if they can pull off a win over the Eagles, then John Harbaugh and the Giants might have the justification they need to splurge on a blockbuster for the Indianapolis Colts running back.

Skattebo is not looking likely to play in Week 9 after missing practices due to a hamstring injury he suffered in Week 7. While he might not miss much time, he’s trending toward missing at least Week 9 against the Eagles.
