Gerard Butler’s John Carpenter Meets The A-Team Thriller Officially Returns Next Month With New Release
Gerard Butler‘s John Carpenter meets The A-Team thriller movie officially returns next month with a new release following its major success in recent years. Butler’s best movies are almost all part of the action genre, delivering punchy, high-octane elements that offer exciting, meaningful stories for audiences. From his disaster movie duology Greenland to franchises like Has Fallen and Den of Thieves, Butler has made a name for himself in the genre. But there’s one standalone movie from just a few years ago which has continued to succeed for the actor following its home release.
That film is Copshop, a 2021 neo-noir crime drama directed by Joe Carnahan. The film stars Butler as Bob Viddick, a professional hitman, whose story entwines with that of professional con artist Teddy Murreto (Frank Grillo), rookie police officer Val Young (Alexis Louder), and murderer Tony Lamb (Toby Huss). The film sees a small town police station become the apex of a major conflict between Bob, Teddy, and Val, as a series of wild events unfold. Reviews for Copshop have been positive, while the movie has enjoyed plenty of streaming success in recent years.

Now, Copshop is coming back to the screen with a new release set to arrive later this year. A new listing on Gruv has revealed Shout! Factory will be releasing Copshop: Director’s Cut in 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray, with pre-orders currently available. This three-disc version of the movie includes both the theatrical cut and director’s cut in both formats, alongside a Director’s Cut Audio Commentary featuring Carnahan, Grillo, and editor Kevin Hale, recorded in 2026. Copshop: Director’s Cut can be ordered today for $36.99, and will be released on December 8, 2026.
The listing doesn’t outright state what will be different between the movie’s director’s cut and the theatrical cut. However, the film is listed as 121 minutes long, as opposed to the theatrical release’s 107-minute runtime. This means Copshop: Director’s Cut will be 14 minutes longer than the original movie, adding multiple scenes that were never in the final product. The release comes on the heels of the movie’s fifth anniversary, making for a fitting release window.
The Action-Thriller Has Gained A Steady Cult Following

The release of Copshop: Director’s Cut coincides with how much of a cult following the movie has built over the years. This is mostly because of the Butler movie’s streaming success in recent times, audiences at home finding the underseen movie and becoming fans of its story. It’s also influenced by a number of mystery, noir-style movies that came before it, making it an action-packed mixture of some of the best thriller and crime-adjacent ideas in cinema history.
The physical release may still be a month away, but prospective purchasers can now pre-order it if they so choose. Given how popular the movie has become thanks to its streaming home releases, this physical release is for those who want to see even more of the Butler-led film in all its action-packed glory. With the movie still maintaining popularity, it seems like Copshop will be a constant for the lead actor’s career for quite some time to come.
