Garrett Nussmeier's brother commits to LSU football's SEC rival

The Nussmeier lineage will continue in the SEC, but it won’t be with LSU football. Colton Nussmeier, the younger brother of former LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, committed to Georgia last week. The 2027 passer is one of the top-ranked quarterbacks in his class.

LSU was involved with Nussmeier in the early stages of his recruitment, but LSU filled its 2027 QB need with a commitment from Peyton Houston. LSU then backed off its other QB targets.

Per the Rivals Industry Rankings, Nussmeier is the No. 197-ranked recruit in the class. He’s No. 16 QB and No. 30 in the state of Texas. Rivals’ own rankings only give Nussmeier three stars. ESPN is the highest on the left-hander, slotting him No. 112 overall and No. 19 in Texas.

Georgia is a good fit for Nussmeier. The Bulldogs are among the most consistent programs in the country and Nussmeier has a strong family pedigree.

Garrett and Colton’s Father, Doug Nussmeier, is the offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints.

Garrett Nussmeier played five years at LSU before the Kansas City Chiefs selected the LSU passer in the 2026 NFL Draft. Nussmeier was LSU’s QB1 in 2024 and 2025, taking over after the depature of Heisman-winning QB Jayden Daniels.
