Game of Thrones is a franchise that remains remarkably popular with millions of fans all over the world, despite the fact that the main series didn’t finish in the way that all of us were hoping. Add to that the fact that the next book is still showing no signs of ever being finished, and it’s a remarkable testament to the commitment of those who like it that they have any interest at all in 2026.

A big part of its ongoing popularity is the myriad other adaptations that continue to keep George RR Martin’s world alive, many of which come in the medium of video games. Now, one of the most popular of those is about to get a major new release, and it brings a whole new dragon into proceedings, which always keeps things interesting.
Over on the official website for Game of Thrones: Dragonfire, you should be able to find a page breaking down their latest addition to the game. If you aren’t familiar with Dragonfire, it’s essentially a free-to-play mobile 4X strategy and role-playing game from Warner Bros. Games Boston that is inspired by the House of the Dragon era.
Players take on the role of a Valyrian descendant, with the main goal being to hatch and command dragons to expand their territory. It’s pretty solid mobile fare, and the developer has just added their latest dragon to the roster in Venator, The Shadow of the Wilds. In letting fans know a little about what they can expect from the new beast, the developer shared the following description:

“Venator, the Shadow of the Wilds, was born beneath a celestial event fortold to change the very course of nature. Emergeing from an edd dark as night, veined with motlen laval, Venator became the guardian of the forest, mastering the laws of hunt and survival.
“The mere presence unsettled even the bravest hunters who dared venture into his realm, dimming their courage and clouding their senses with primal fear. Ledgends of Venator, whisphered in hushed reverence around campfires, tell of a dragon whose attacks are swift and devastating, striking twice in the blink of an eye, and whose fiery breath scorches the earth and melts armor.”

“Venator, the Legendary Warrior, is an aggressive physical damage dealer who turns Basic Attacks into repeated follow-up strikes. He becomes increasingly lethal once he gains Double-Strike. His kit is built around chaining multiple instances of Physical Damage, and punishing Hunter dragons. As combat progresses, his Command potential rises giving him more chances to convert basic attacks into additional burst damage that can rapidly wear down his targets.”

The main mechanics for using Venator successfully will essentially be to keep him attacking as much as possible. At the same time, exploiting double-strike windows is key, as is finishing low-troop targets.
It’s also a great way to fill some time while you wait for the next season of House of the Dragon. A long wait it is set to be too, with the fourth and final season currently planned for a 2028 release.
