Game contract details for Tennessee basketball exhibition game vs Duke

Tennessee men’s basketball can make up to $200,000 from their exhibition game at Duke on Oct. 20, according to documents obtained by Knox News. The two programs agreed to split revenue generated by the game up to $400,000, with any revenue exceeding that amount being retained by Duke.

That amount must be paid out within 60 days of playing the game, per the contract signed by Duke athletic director Nina King and UT associate vice chancellor Kim McCullock and deputy athletic director Marshall Steward on May 29.

Game time and television designation were not set in the contract and have yet to be announced. The contract grants control of television rights to the ACC for this game and empowers the league to assign officials. The Vols will be able to air a radio broadcast of the game from Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina, and retain all revenue it creates.

Tennessee also agreed to provide video of exhibition games or preseason scrimmages if requested by Duke.

The first exhibition game for Tennessee is against Xavier on Oct. 15 at Food City Center. Game time has not been announced.

This will be the second of a home-and-home exhibition series played between UT and Duke. Duke pulled away in the second half to earn an 83-76 win last October at Food City Center.

The Vols open the regular season at home against Wofford on Nov. 3.
