FSU softball player named National Defender of the Year

Florida State’s softball season ended with a loss to the UCF Knights in the Tallahassee Regional after forcing a winner-take-all match that would’ve seen the Seminoles advance to Super Regionals should they had won.

In any case, this was an exceptional season for Isa Torres, who helped lead the Seminoles to a 52-10 overall record, including an ACC regular season and tournament victory. For her efforts throughout the season, she has been named Softball America’s Defender of the Year, the organization announced Tuesday.

Torres had just two errors throughout the entire season, and her first did not happen until the ACC Tournament began. In her 186 chances to record an out, she recorded 63 of them and had 121 assists, good for a fielding percentage of .989%. That is the best percentage by any Seminole to have more than 180 chances.

In 2025, Torres had 197 chances, which either resulted in a putout or an assist .954% of the time, so her numbers improved significantly. She also decreased her errors from last season’s mark of nine total.

Torres was one of four Seminoles to be named an All-American by Softball America, with her making the first team.
