Fridolina Rolfo: Man United women star disheartened at current role

Manchester United Women star Fridolina Rolfö has once again spoken out on her international situation.

United career

The Swedish star signed for Manchester United Women last August after leaving FC Barcelona on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old also has experience playing for VfL Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich in Germany.

She scored seven goals in 30 appearances for the Red Devils in a strong first season in Manchester.

International situation

Rolfö has a rich history with her national team, having played 108 times for her country.

She has also scored 33 goals for the Swedes during her international career.

Unfortunately, Rolfö is finding it hard to accumulate much game time under current head coach Tony Gustavsson.

Back in April, the Swedish attacker expressed her disappointment at the lack of opportunities she was getting for her country.

She reiterated those feelings after her side’s 2-1 loss to Denmark in World Cup qualification.

The defeat meant that the Swedes will need a play-off to qualify for the tournament in Brazil next summer.

In an interview with SVT Sport, she openly questioned her manager’s decision to only let her play the final seven minutes of action.

She stated, “playing time is not something I can influence in a decision. That will be up to Tony (Gustavsson). Then I try to lay my best possible foundation to be as ready as possible, regardless of whether it is to start the match or finish the match.”

Asked if she was physically fine to play she retorted, “no, I’m fine. I’m not going to criticize anyone, what it’s about is a question that should be asked to Tony. I’m doing what I can influence and that’s the most important thing – that I walk with a straight back.”

Rolfö also revealed that she is having discussions with her head coach, but when asked if she was buying his excuses she claimed, “I would say yes and no. It’s his choice in the end.”

The Swedes take on Italy later today to complete their group, and Rolfö will hope to earn more minutes this time around.
