Freeman: Notre Dame OC ‘wants to use every play to win games’

US LBM Coaches Poll No. 3 Notre Dame will take on the Purdue Boilermakers on the road later today, and what happens on the field will be something to pay attention to.

While the Fighting Irish offense is getting the job done in their undefeated run so far, some believe offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock has held back and conducted a more reserved offense.

Irish Sports Daily posted on social media Thursday that head coach Marcus Freeman defended Denbrock, noting that Denbrock is “not saving plays for later in the season.”

“He wants to use every play to win games each week and challenge staff to enhance,” Freeman added.

It’s clear that Notre Dame’s defense is their bread and butter, especially since they’re fourth in the country in scoring defense (7.67).

The offense is averaging 407.7 yards per game, which is good for 44th in the nation. The Irish, however, are averaging 40 points and 277.7 passing yards per game.

Saturday’s matchup between Notre Dame and Purdue will begin at 2 p.m. ET and stream exclusively on Peacock.
