The ex-Crystal Palace winger has emerged as one of France’s key players at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, significantly contributing to Didier Deschamps’ team as Les Bleus strive for another global championship.

However, many fans were taken aback to learn that his sporting lineage goes beyond football, with his father having a notable cricket career before gaining recognition as the parent of one of football’s most promising talents.

The 66-year-old Vincent Olise represented Nigeria in international cricket from 1983 to 1993.

Throughout his career, he played for teams such as Lagos State, Foundations Cricket Club, and the Nigerian national team.

One of Vincent’s standout moments occurred while he was playing for Nigeria against Gambia in the West African Quadrangular tournament, where he reportedly took 10 wickets in a single innings, equaling a record previously held by Chris Enahoro.

Michael Olise has previously acknowledged his father’s impact on his life and has mentioned that cricket continues to be one of his interests outside of football.

Olise, who had the option to represent France, England, Nigeria, or Algeria due to his heritage, ultimately decided to play international football for France.
