The Boston Celtics reportedly tried trading Jaylen Brown to the Milwaukee Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo, but he ended up with the Miami Heat.

According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the Celtics made the Bucks an offer that included Brown and multiple draft picks. However, after the Celtics failed to land Antetokounmpo, there are reports that other teams could be targeting Brown and some insiders speculate that Brown’s relationship with the team may be fractured after trade talks.

This is not the first time the Celtics have made Brown available. They reportedly tried trading him for Kevin Durant in 2022. Brad Stevens thinks Brown and Jayson Tatum can continue to work together and win championships, but Jeff Teague thinks Brown is “probably offended” by all the talk of the Celtics trying to trade him for Antetokounmpo. Teague was teammates with Brown in 2020.

“He’s probably offended… He’s probably like, ‘I had the best season I ever had in a Celtics uniform and we won a championship before, and I’ve never had a season like this… I was Finals MVP. I should have been first team All-NBA.,'” Teague said “Club 520 Podcast.” “Things like that creep into your mind… I would feel a way because you thought somebody was better, like, ‘I would take Giannis over you, he’s better.’ And it’s like, as a competitor, he doesn’t think Giannis is better than him.”

Teague knows Brown better than a lot of the insiders speculating on his future. He actually shared a locker room with him. He thinks, as a competitor, Brown does not think the Celtics would be better off with Antetokounmpo. Brown certainly has a chip on his shoulder. Earlier this week, he addressed some of the trade talk on his livestream with Olympic sprinter Noah Lyles.

”Somewhat grateful, because I get to see some negativity that I didn’t want. But that just gives more fuel to the fire,” Brown said on his Twitch stream on Monday. “I see some comments, or takes, that I didn’t even care to see, but it just gives me more fuel to the fire.

“To all the people who have doubted me, that want me to do this or want me gone, you’re turning me into a monster.”
