Former Steelers starting QB leads 2026 countdown to kickoff: Day No. 6

Fans only need to wait 6 more days until the Steel City brand of football returns when the Pittsburgh Steelers host the Atlanta Falcons on September 13. In the spirit of the countdown to kickoff, we’ll take a look at the most recent and best players ever to wear No. 6.

Queen, who signed with the Steelers as a free agent in 2024, is the current No. 6 wearer on the team’s roster.

No. 6 doesn’t have the historical impact as other numbers on our countdown to kickoff, but the greatest wearer is without a doubt quarterback Bubby Brister.

Brister, selected by Pittsburgh with the 67th overall pick in the third round of the 1986 NFL Draft, spent seven years with the Steelers (1986-1992) and recorded 10,104 passing yards and 51 touchdowns.

He eventually passed the torch to quarterback Neil O’Donnell following the arrival of head coach Bill Cowher, but remains the greatest Steeler ever to wear No. 6 in franchise history.
