Former player backs Real Madrid to sign Spanish coach ahead of Jurgen Klopp and Mourinho

Real Madrid’s presidential election has generated significant debate about the club’s future direction, and one of the most discussed topics has been who should take charge of the first team, at least in the long-term.

While Jose Mourinho remains Florentino Perez’s preferred choice and Jurgen Klopp has been floated by rival candidate former-liverpool-manager-jurgen-klopp/">Enrique Riquelme, a former Real Madrid player has offered a different perspective entirely.

Speaking to Movistar+, former Real Madrid defender Miguel Torres believes PSG’s Luis Enrique would be the ideal man to lead the team.

It is far from an outlandish suggestion. The Spanish coach has just guided PSG to back-to-back Champions League titles, cementing his status as one of the most in-form managers in world football right now.

His track record at the highest level, combined with his familiarity with Spanish football, makes him a compelling option on paper.

The reality of the situation

In practice, however, Luis Enrique is under contract at PSG and shows no signs of leaving the French champions anytime soon.

Mourinho remains the frontrunner for the Real Madrid job should Perez win re-election, with the two parties understood to have already reached a broad agreement.

It must also be noted that Enrique, despite having a Real Madrid past, feels much closer to Barcelona, and he has not been shy in showing his admiration for the Catalan team.

Keeping that in mind, it remains unlikely Real Madrid would even want to attempt bringing in Enrique, even though the prospect of the Spaniard potentially leading a transition phase at Santiago Bernabeu is certainly intriguing.
