After the New York Knicks pulled off a remarkable comeback win over Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, the Spurs superstar reportedly encountered a hostile reception outside the team’s hotel in Manhattan. According to Shams Charania, several eggs were thrown toward Wembanyama as the Spurs walked back to their hotel across from Madison Square Garden following the game. 

One egg seemed to splatter on a street sign inches from Wembanyama’s head, and he was seen checking his clothing for residue. No arrests were reported in connection with the incident, but the incident sparked reactions across the sports world, including from former NFL Pro Bowler T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

“If Wemby turns around and smacks the sht outta one of them, it’d be a problem,” Houshmandzadeh said. “Because as soon as he smacked the sht out of somebody, they’re gonna they’re gonna be ready to sue. There’s a lot of dudes that if you hit them with an egg they turn around and they’re gonna put hands and feet on you.

“At the end of the day, it’s a basketball game. It’s a game where you throw eggs at Wimby. They helped y’all win. What are y’all mad at him for? Y’all should be happy. Y’all should be sending him gifts. He helped y’all win. At some point now when they go back to New York, they need to make sure the fans can’t even line up at the hotel. They gotta eliminate all that because something can happen.”

Even longtime Knicks supporter Stephen A. Smith condemned the behavior, labeling the fans responsible as “punks” and saying they should face arrest for throwing an egg at Wembanyama.

The confrontation came shortly after one of the Spurs’ most devastating defeats of the season. They dominated early, racing to a 41-22 advantage after the opening quarter and carrying a 27-point lead into halftime after scoring 76 points in the first two quarters.

However, the momentum completely shifted after the break. The Spurs managed only 30 points in the second half, which ultimately opened the door for the Knicks to erase the massive deficit and complete one of the most memorable comeback victories in NBA Finals history.
