Former Nets F Blake Griffin to host late night talk show
Former Brooklyn Nets forward Blake Griffin had some good moments during his time with the Nets, even though the prime of his career happened with the Los Angeles Clippers. Brooklyn brought Griffin to Brooklyn when the franchise was trying to win with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in town, but now that his playing career is over, Griffin is expanding how he talks about basketball.
“The former Clipper and Pistons All-Star is launching a weekly late-night show on Prime Video and YouTube produced with Amazon’s Wondery,” Steven Zeitchik wrote of Griffin for The Hollywood Reporter. For those that have kept up with Griffin since his career ended following the conclusion of the 2022-23 season, he has already been contributing to basketball media through his work with Amazon Prime, but he’s adding a different venture while he’s at it.
“Titled The Stepback with Blake Griffin, it features the host sitting behind a desk chronicling and opining on the juiciest sports topics of our time — think John Oliver, but for all things athletic,” Zeitchik continued on Griffin. “Among the topics on the docket are gambling, NIL, taxpayer-funded stadiums, pot use, analytics and the state of sports journalism.”
Griffin, 37, spent the majority of his 13-year career with the Clippers and Detroit Pistons, but he did spend parts of two seasons with the Nets when he was looking to win a championship before ending his career. In 82 games played with Brooklyn, Griffin averaged 7.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 45.0% from the field and 30.5% from behind the three-point line.
Griffin is one of four players that were finalists for the 2026 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, along with Nets legend Buck Williams, but the former Oklahoma Sooners star was not inducted into the Hall this summer. Be that as it may, Griffin will likely get into the Hall someday and once he does, the Nets will have yet another Hall-of-Famer that played for them. In the meantime, Griffin will be getting more shine via his late night talk show that starts in October.
