Former Memphis Redbirds outfielder Joshua Baéz hits 3 homers in MLB debut

Former Memphis Redbirds outfielder Joshua Baéz made MLB history by becoming the first player to hit three home runs in his major league debut.

Baéz, who was drafted in 2021 and is the No. 59 prospect this season in baseball, was called up by the St. Louis Cardinals on Aug. 15 and debuted at Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs.

It didn’t take long for him to make an impact.

In the top of the first, hitting third in the lineup, Baéz walked up to the plate with a runner on and one out. On the first pitch, he blasted a shot straight to center field for a no-doubter.

In the top of the fourth, Baéz sent one to the left-field bleachers on a full count for his second of the day. In the sixth, he sent his third homer to right field to clinch baseball history and help the Cardinals to a 8-4 win.

The Redbirds clubhouse also reacted to the historic feat.

Baéz was assigned to the Redbirds on March 27. Before he was called up, he had 34 home runs and 90 RBIs with a .256 batting average through 103 games.

Baéz had three multi-homer games in his stint in Memphis.
