Former Houston Rockets second-round pick breaks BIG3 scoring record

· · 1 min read

A former Houston Rockets second-round pick, Montrezl Harrell broke the record (37 points) for most points scored in a BIG3 game Sunday afternoon, scoring 42 of 50 points as the Chicago Triplets took down the Los Angeles Riot. Harrell also added 11 rebounds, one assist and one block.

Still just 32 years of age, Harrell hasn’t played in the NBA since the 2022-23 season with the Philadelphia 76ers. In two seasons with Houston, Harrell impressed on the defensive end in limited minutes, averaging 6.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.5 blocks and 0.3 steals in 14.9 minutes per game.

Harrell was eventually traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in a package for 12-time NBA All-Star Chris Paul. Harrell would go on to win a Sixth Man of the Year award but eventually fizzled out of the NBA, as he had difficulty stretching the floor (career 10.8% from 3-point range).
