Florida State quarterback lands on preseason impact transfer rankings

Florida State‘s quarterback addition through the transfer portal continues to draw national attention ahead of the 2026 season. In the recently released Lindy’s Sports College Football Preview, Seminoles quarterback Ashton Daniels was ranked as the 12th most impactful quarterback transfer in college football entering the 2026 campaign.

The recognition reflects the importance Daniels carries for an FSU program looking to rebound under head coach Mike Norvell. Daniels arrived in Tallahassee during the winter transfer cycle after spending the 2025 season with the Auburn Tigers football and the previous three years with the Stanford Cardinal. He committed to FSU in January and was later named the Seminoles’ starting quarterback following spring practice.

The veteran signal-caller brings extensive experience to Tallahassee, having appeared in 37 career games with 23 starts between Stanford and Auburn. Over his collegiate career, Daniels has thrown for 4,783 yards and 24 touchdowns while adding 1,397 rushing yards and 11 scores on the ground, showcasing the dual-threat ability that made him a fit in Norvell’s offense.

Florida State will be counting on Daniels to provide stability at the position after consecutive seasons led by transfer quarterbacks. The Seminoles named Daniels QB1 following a spring competition with Kevin Sperry, with the coaching staff citing his experience, consistency, and mobility as key factors in the decision.

Lindy’s ranking underscores the belief that Daniels could play a significant role in determining Florida State’s trajectory this fall. With one season of eligibility remaining, the transfer enters 2026 as one of the most important newcomers on the Seminoles’ roster and a player whose performance could have a major impact on the program’s pursuit of a return to ACC contention.
