Flights from UK airports among three targeted by bomb threats
Two passenger planes are being inspected after landing in Warsaw and a third in Murcia in Spain, following a series of bomb threats.
A flight from London Heathrow made an unscheduled landing in Warsaw Modlin airport where it was inspected by specialists. It was en route to Warsaw’s main airport, Chopin, with 181 people on board.
A second flight from Copenhagen to Chopin airport also faced a bomb threat, Danish media reported. It landed as normal.
Meanwhile, a Ryanair plane from Manchester made an emergency landing at Murcia airport in southern Spain, due to another threat.
That flight had 121 people on board, including crew, according to Francisco Lucas, the Spanish government’s delegate in the Murcia region.
The plane was being inspected and security protocol was under way, he said.
The local fire brigade said it had also been mobilised for the emergency at Murcia-Corvera airport.
The separate incidents came the day after a Wizz Air flight from London Luton made an emergency landing in Budapest, escorted by a Hungarian fighter jet, after a bomb threat.
Wizz Air said later that security checks had been made and nothing was found.
Warsaw Modlin airport, which is used mainly by budget airlines, said a Boeing 737 Max aircraft had landed at 10:01 (09:01 GMT) and that passengers had later disembarked.
It said later that air operations had resumed and that the plane subjected to a “possible bomb threat is currently being checked by relevant authorities”.
Meanwhile, a spokesman from Chopin airport said that one of the runways on the airport apron had been closed but operations were not significantly impacted.
