Fintiri backs Kanu’s proposal for football tournament in Adamawa
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has given his nod to a proposal by former Nigerian international footballer, Nwankwo Kanu, to hold a football tournament in Adamawa State.
Fintiri offered his support on Tuesday at the Government House in Yola when he received a proposal from Kanu and his team.
The team proposed to organise a Governor’s Cup tournament, with a trophy to be competed for by teams from across the 21 local government areas of the state.
The governor, noting that any administration that fails to develop its youths through sports risks being left behind, said the proposed tournament would provide young people with opportunities to develop their football talents.
Fintiri, assuring the tournament of his support, expressed optimism that the final match would be played at the new ultramodern stadium under construction by his administration.
Earlier, during the interaction with Fintiri, Kanu Nwankwo said football had provided him with an opportunity to succeed and that similar opportunities should be created for young people.
Kanu explained that the Governor’s Cup would take football to all 21 local government areas, where scouts would identify talented players who would be exposed to professional clubs.
