Fight drug traffickers like terrorists — Zamfara cleric urges FG

· · 1 min read

The Chief Imam of the Muslim Foundation Jumu’at Mosque in Gusau, Zamfara State, Sheikh Ra’is, has urged the Federal Government to fight drug traffickers with the same intensity as terrorists, warning that the growing menace of illicit drugs poses a serious threat to the country’s security and moral values.

The cleric made the call while delivering his Friday sermon, where he expressed concern over the increasing rate of drug abuse and trafficking, warning that the trend poses a serious threat to the nation’s security and moral values.

According to him, the fight against drug trafficking should be treated with the same urgency as the campaign against terrorism.

“Drug traffickers and sellers are no different from terrorists. The government and the people of Nigeria should join hands to fight them,” he said.

Sheikh Ra’is stressed that addressing the problem should not be left to security agencies alone, urging parents to monitor their children’s activities and associations to prevent them from engaging in drug abuse and trafficking.

He also called on religious leaders, traditional rulers and community leaders to unite in raising awareness against the spread of illicit drugs.

The cleric further urged the government to intensify efforts against drug cartels, saying a society plagued by drug abuse cannot achieve lasting peace, security or development.

He advised young people to shun drug abuse and trafficking, noting that their future was more valuable than any financial gain from the illicit trade.
