The FIA has announced that Alpine’s attempt to overturn the penalties that cost their driver Pierre Gasly a podium in Monaco.

The hearing is set for Thursday, at which Alpine will be required to provide a new element that was not available at the time of the penalties.

If the stewards accept the new element, there is a second stage that will consider the merits of the penalties.

The penalties were both pitlane speed limit infringements. Gasly crossed the line in third, but the penalties forced him to drop down to seventh in the order.

Isack Hadjar was thrust onto the podium, while Oscar Piastri, Liam Lawson, and Arvid Lindblad also gained positions at the end of the race.

Understandably, Gasly was extremely upset on the radio following the podium being taken away.

“I don’t think there is anything that could hurt me more right now,” he said. “It’s ten years I’m f*****g working my ass off for this type of moment.

“We did everything right today [to be] standing on that podium in front of all the fans that turned up. This is the type of moment that for me can’t be taken away from us by unfair reasons.”

“I’m heartbroken right now… no words can describe the pain of losing a podium in Formula 1, and in the streets Monaco, I’m devastated,” Gasly said on social media after the race.

“We crossed the finish line in 3rd today, and thats all I want to remember. I’ve dreamed about that podium thousands times, we all working very hard for years to achieve moments like today and it doesn’t feel right for it to be taken away like this. I really hope the right outcome can be made. We will fight for it with my team.”

It will be interesting to see what kind of evidence Alpine can present to overturn the ruling. Gasly was definitely hard done by, but the bar is high for an FIA overturn.
