FG targets 20,000 annual medical admissions, plans six simulation centres

The minister added that enrolment into pharmacy and dental programmes had also grown, further increasing the need for adequate facilities to support hands-on training.

He commended the chairman of the Medical Simulation Committee, Dr Wale Suleiman, and other members of the committee for their contributions towards developing the proposal.

According to Alausa, the simulation centres would help ensure that the growing number of healthcare students receive quality practical training before entering professional practice.

The government’s plan comes amid continuing concerns about the migration of Nigerian-trained doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals to foreign countries in search of improved working conditions, better pay and career opportunities.

The departure of healthcare workers has contributed to concerns about shortages of skilled personnel within Nigeria’s health sector, particularly in public hospitals and underserved communities.

Through the proposed simulation centres and expanded enrolment, the Federal Government hopes to increase the number of trained healthcare professionals while strengthening the quality of medical and health education.

Alausa said the initiative reflected the administration’s commitment to investing in education and developing the skilled workforce needed to meet Nigeria’s future healthcare demands.

He added that the government remained committed to improving access to quality education and creating stronger opportunities for young Nigerians preparing for careers in critical sectors.
