FG clarifies: Recruitment waiver rules still apply to federal tertiary institutions

“All requests must continue to comply strictly with the established approval process,” the ministry stated, urging federal tertiary institutions to adhere to the prescribed procedures.

The clarification also reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to transparency and accountability in staffing decisions across federal tertiary institutions.

It said the process aligns with the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI) and President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which the government says guides its efforts to improve the education sector.

Earlier reports had suggested that Tinubu had scrapped the requirement for federal universities to secure recruitment waivers from the OHCSF. The reported policy change was presented as an effort to address staffing constraints and grant institutions greater independence in managing their workforce.

The reports emerged after FUHSA held its maiden convocation ceremony on Saturday, where 50 pioneer graduates received their degrees.

Tinubu, who serves as visitor to all federal universities, was represented at the event by the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Sonny Echono.
