LeBron James on Friday announced his “last decision“: to join the Philadelphia 76ers on a two-year, $8 million contract with a player option for 2027/28.

The news came to WNBA All-Star Weekend in real time, right as Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark happened to be chatting with the media.

“No way!” Clark told reporters from All-Star Media Day in Chicago. “I just pitched him for the Pacers, it didn’t get to him fast enough!”

Clark is in Chicago for her second All-Star Game, amid the third selection of her career. She heard the James news along with everyone else, when ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the story at 10:30 a.m. CT on Friday.

“They have some serious talent on the 76ers, arguably one of the favorites in the East now, with the Knicks and obviously my Pacers,” Clark said.

Clark said that “selfishly,” she wanted James to team up with Stephen Curry on the Golden State Warriors. But James instead has chosen to head back to the Eastern Conference, where he will try to lead the 76ers to their first NBA title since 1983.

And either way, Clark will be watching.

Clark said. “I’ll be watching more 76ers games, no matter where Bron was gonna go I was probably gonna cheer for (that team).”
