Fans pack Wissahickon Brewing Company to cheer on Birds across the Atlantic
Fans packed Wissahickon Brewing Company in East Falls to cheer on the Eagles for their international game in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
They left more than disappointed in the outcome of the game.
“This is like a knife in the gut. The Phillies suck. The Eagles suck. This is terrible,” said Ian Levengood of Perkasie, Pennsylvania.
“This is crazy. We were just celebrating. We were so close. We were so close. We were so close,” said Celia Flores-Rivera.
But the early morning game nor the rain could stop Eagles fans from supporting the Birds this Sunday.
“Philly always shows up. It feels like London outside, but inside here, always such a great atmosphere. No matter where the Birds are going, we’re always going to watch and cheer on,” said co-owner of Wissahickon Brewing Company, Luke Gill.
There were drink specials and vendors like Patch Bar Studio in-house.
Greg White continued his tradition of hyping the crowd with every touchdown with a special banjo version of Fly Eagles Fly: The Eagles Fight song.
“I try, get them up, you see how they respond. It’s great!” said Greg White of Wissahickon.
JD McGillicuddy’s in Manayunk opened 3 hours early for the anticipated crowds.
Their special watch party event called ‘Kegs and Eggs’ was created in honor of the international game.
Fans say, if they couldn’t be in London, the next best thing is being together, cheering from across the Atlantic.
“We should have won that game; we should have stopped that block. We shouldn’t have let them get close enough to win the game at the last second,” said Alex Rivera.
Rivera and many others are not happy with how this game turned out, but say there’s always a new chance to win next week.
The team is set to return home to South Philadelphia on October 18th, where they’ll face the Carolina Panthers.
