Fabrizio Romano confirms sensational star now wants to join Liverpool
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that a sensational player wants to join Liverpool.
At long last, Liverpool’s transfer window finally appears to be showing signs of life. After weeks of speculation, false starts and very little tangible progress, there is at least some movement behind the scenes.
It has been a frustrating summer for supporters, who expected a decisive rebuild but have instead watched the club drift while rivals strengthened.
The pressure is mounting on Richard Hughes, too.
With reports linking him to a move to Al Hilal, this could be his final transfer window in charge of Liverpool’s recruitment. If that proves to be the case, the next few weeks will go a long way towards defining how he is remembered at Anfield.
There is no denying Hughes deserves praise for last summer’s spending. He was prepared to break club transfer records and invest heavily in the squad. However, recruitment is not simply about spending money; it is about building a balanced team.
Liverpool failed to do that. The squad became overloaded in certain positions while glaring weaknesses remained elsewhere, and those shortcomings eventually caught up with Arne Slot. The Dutchman paid the ultimate price with his job.
Now Andoni Iraola has inherited the challenge of putting Liverpool back on track, but the task facing him is arguably even bigger than many anticipated. The squad already looked stretched towards the end of last season, and it has only become thinner over the course of the summer.
Several experienced and influential players have departed, leaving sizeable gaps that still have not been filled.
When the transfer window opened, supporters expected Liverpool to respond with ambition.
Replacing iconic figures such as Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson was always going to require significant investment, and there was genuine optimism that the club would move aggressively in the market.
Instead, as August approaches and the closing weeks of the window begin, Victor Munoz remains the only new arrival through the door.
However, a new winger alone will not solve Liverpool’s problems. Reinforcements are needed throughout the squad, especially in defence and midfield.
Centre-back, in particular, has become a major concern. At present, the only fit options are teenagers Mor Talla Ndiaye and Ifeanyi Ndukwe, two highly promising prospects but players with almost no senior experience. Expecting them to shoulder the burden of competing across multiple competitions would be unfair and incredibly risky.
There are finally encouraging signs on the pursuit of Bradley Barcola, with Liverpool accelerating their efforts to sign the winger. Bringing in a player of his quality would undoubtedly strengthen Iraola’s attacking options, particularly after Salah’s departure.
But time is beginning to run out. Liverpool have shown some signs of accelerating in the transfer market, but one signing will not be enough.
If Hughes wants to leave behind a positive legacy and give Iraola the best possible chance of success, the club must act decisively before the window closes.
Fortunately it looks like he could be going out with a bang. Hughes is now looking more and more likely to complete a deal for Barcola.
Fabrizio Romano’s latest post on the matter on X confirms that the PSG star wants to join Liverpool, and that there is absolutely no ‘doubt’ about that.
Barcola is a sensational player and the fact that he is so determined to join Liverpool makes us think about Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.
Both were also very keen on Liverpool, and we know how those sagas ended-up, with the duo joining the Reds.
So if Romano is to be believed, it feels like it’s a matter of when not if Barcola joins Liverpool at this stage.
