Question: On reuniting with QB C.J. Stroud

Marvin Harrison Jr: “I’m excited. I’m excited to be here. Excited to help this team win games. Excited to be with C.J. again and help C.J. to the best of my ability. Overall, just excited.”

Harrison Jr: “Just excitement. I’ve always watched the Texans from afar, just watching C.J. It’s pretty surreal to be able to play with him now again and just help him out the best I can.”

Q: On playing with WR Nico Collins

Harrison Jr: “I think it’s great. I think we can help each other out. I want to help him out. I want to learn from him. I think he’s one of the best receivers in this league. It’s my job to kind of just be a sponge and absorb the best I can from him.”

Q: On why the Texans are a great opportunity

Harrison Jr: “I think it’s just a combination of everything. I can’t pinpoint one thing. I think the team as a whole, it’s great for me, great situation for me being with C.J. Being with a quarterback that you have rapport with and had success with in the past is always great, too. Being around Nico, being around a bunch of other guys, I think just everything in totality is going to make the best situation for me.”

Q: On how he learned he was being traded to the Houston Texans

Harrison Jr: “My agent told me before the news broke to you guys. [Head Coach] DeMeco [Ryans] kind of did his thing as well.”

Q: On if he had a preference of a trade destination

Harrison Jr: “No. When you get traded, you don’t have that option.”

Q: On learning about the business of the NFL

Harrison Jr: “I wouldn’t have to lean on him too much. I just had that understanding beforehand. Football was always kind of a business to me just because seeing my dad in those situations. It was a game that I had a lot of fun growing up, but I always knew the seriousness of the game of football.”

Q: On his time ending with Arizona and what he looks forward to in Houston

Harrison Jr: “There are a lot of factors. I think with any situation, you always want to take accountability for yourself. I’m always going to take accountability on my part and my role that I played in things. I’m just looking forward to the future now at this point and moving forward.”

Q: On what he looks to learn from during his time with the Arizona Cardinals

Harrison Jr: “Those things I keep to myself really truthfully. What I learned in Arizona, I think I definitely learned a lot. Moving forward, I’m really just looking forward.”

Q: On what he brings to the receiver room

Harrison Jr: “I think I can do it all, really. I’m confident in all my abilities to play this game at a high level. I know all the work that I put in day in and day out. I like to look at myself as a well-rounded receiver. I feel like I can do a lot of things. Whatever role I have on the team, I’m going to do my best with my ability to perfect that role and help the team win games.”

Q: On his chemistry with QB C.J. Stroud and that helping him acclimate to the Texans scheme

Harrison Jr: “To more focus on the C.J. part, just knowing body language and knowing kind of what he’s thinking about certain things and kind of just seeing the defense the same way. We haven’t had live action yet, but football is just football at the end of the day for the most part. I think just seeing things the same way, he can kind of read my body language, I think that can definitely help.”

Q: On tuning out the noise

Harrison Jr: “Everybody has their own opinions. That’s really the best way I can put that. Everybody has their own opinions and what they’re going to gather from information. I know who I am as a player. I know who I am as a person. However people want to label me or think of me, that’s their opinions.”

Q: On what he’s looking forward to with the Texans

Harrison Jr: “I’m excited to be here. I just want to help this team win.”

Q: On his first week with the Texans

Harrison Jr: “It’s been crazy. Definitely been crazy. I’m just enjoying the moment, enjoying the process.”

Q: On Head Coach DeMeco Ryans

Harrison Jr: “Energy, man, energy. I think that’s one thing you can always pinpoint, especially when you’re a defensive guy. They always want to bring the energy. I think you can kind of see that throughout the whole team and the energy he brings day in and day out.”

Q: On learning he might be traded from the Arizona Cardinals

Harrison Jr: “It’s hard to pinpoint an exact moment. When I knew, I think just kind of playing the game, understanding the business side of it, kind of get a feel for some things.”

Q: On his new opportunity with the Texans

Harrison Jr: “Just trying to make it as fun as possible. Have fun, be myself. That’s really the best way I can put it.”

Q: On the impact he hopes to make with the Texans

Harrison Jr: “Just help the team win, period.”

Q: On his goal heading into his first game as a Texan

Harrison Jr: “I think studying the playbook, obviously getting the playbook, knowing what your job description is on each play and kind of just going from there. Just having constant communication with C.J. and the rest of the coaching staff as well.”

Q: On the balance of consuming and retaining information

Harrison Jr: “I think talking to ‘KB’ [WR Kayshon Boutte] earlier today, when he kind of got here he kind of had to learn everything before the season started, whereas now I’m learning everything, but kind of just more so can you play on specific things. I think that kind of helps my process in that way.”

Q: On how his route running became a strength

Harrison Jr.: “Reps, repetition. I think just doing the same things over and over again until it becomes second nature. That’s the best way I can put it.”
