Even the NFL is disrespecting the 2026 Commanders
Well, the disrespect just keeps coming. Or maybe there is a reasonable explanation this time.
The Washington Commanders have deserved some disrespect over the years. There is no debate that former owner Daniel Snyder brought much embarrassment to the franchise for a variety of reasons.
Last season (2025), the Commanders not only fell to 5-12, but also suffered some really embarrassing blowouts. The latest disrespect may actually be a result of such a miserable season. The NFL Network has been announcing the NFL Top 100 players, leading up to the 2026 season.
NFL players vote on a secret ballot for the top 20 players based upon the year’s performances. Well, Washington went 5-12 last season, so apparently NFL players didn’t give the Commanders much regard or respect. As a result, the Commanders ended up as the only NFL team not represented with at least one player in this year’s top 100.
Of course, with last year’s defense being as terrible as it was, it is certainly understandable why no defensive member of the Commanders was elected to the top 100. But this year’s voting raises two questions. Do current NFL players actually think Laremy Tunsil and Jayden Daniels are not in the top 100?
NFL Top 100 Players of 2025: @Commanders QB Jayden Daniels makes his first appearance on this list at No. 21! @NFLFilmspic.twitter.com/A0Hu4FSZ7F

In last year’s voting, NFL players voted Jayden Daniels No. 21. So Daniels has fallen at least 79 spots in a year and is no longer a top-100 NFL player? It’s all subjective, so at the end of the day, what does it even matter what other players think? Laremy Tunsil? Tunsil was voted No. 85 in the 2025 voting.
The issue may be that NFL players aren’t being directed to vote for the players they think are the best in the NFL right now. Instead, they’re being directed to vote on who the best players they faced were that season.
But the NFL markets their list, their countdown, in a manner that the top 100 is often misunderstood. Tunsil may be out for the 2026 season after tearing a triceps muscle during training camp. Daniels, though not making the list this year, could very well be on the list again next year if he remains healthy.
But hey, it’s a subjective list, so why put so much interest in the list in the first place?
