Evaluating Brian Thomas Jr.'s playing time in midst of trade speculation
In the midst of trade speculation, how much playing time did Brian Thomas Jr. see in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Week 8 win over the Colts?
Coming into this game, Thomas’ role had been shrinking, and doing so quite quickly. In Week 6 against Houston, he played only 15 snaps, including none in the second half of that game. He also had no receptions between Weeks 5 and 6.
Yet, Liam Coen maintained his confidence in Thomas and said he would make an impact this week, which he did, catching a touchdown pass on third down.
Thomas would end up playing 28 of the 54 offensive snaps in this game. For context, Parker Washington played 36, and Jakobi Meyers played 29.
However, his opportunities were still relatively limited. That touchdown catch was his only reception of the game. Thomas was also targeted only twice.
Since last year’s trade deadline, trade speculation has surrounded Thomas, but the Jaguars have remained firm in that they won’t trade him.
However, The Ringer’s Tom Pelissero posted on X on Saturday that Thomas’ “recent benching and ongoing struggles have ramped up belief within the league that Jacksonville will move him by the deadline.”
This year’s trade deadline is Nov. 10.
