EPL: ‘We don’t want errors’ – Leboeuf warns Alonso over big issue at Chelsea
Former Chelsea player, Frank Leboeuf has urged his old club to find a replacement for goalkeeper Robert Sanchez immediately.
This is following the goalkeeper’s performance in the Blues’ 3-2 victory over Fulham on Monday.
Chelsea kicked off their Premier League season with an impressive performance as their attacking trio of Morgan Rogers, Cole Palmer, and Joao Pedro scored against Fulham.
However, the error-prone display of Robert Sanchez became an important topic of discussion.
Leboeuf slammed the Spanish goalkeeper for his inadequate performance against Fulham at Craven Cottage and called for his replacement.
He asserted that the Chelsea defence appeared unstable due to a lack of confidence in their goalkeeper.
He told ESPN FC, “I sensed they were as shaky as everyone else. As a defender, when you lack a Barthez or a top goalkeeper, your confidence diminishes, leading to a shaky performance.
“Take the second goal, for instance, with Colwill; he should have contested the ball with a header, and when you make a mistake, there is no one behind to support you.
Being a goalkeeper is challenging because you stand alone, but we are familiar with Sanchez. We have known him for some time, and he is prone to errors.”
“There is an issue, and Xabi Alonso must find someone else immediately. This has been an ongoing issue; we do not wish to witness this any longer.
“With all due respect to Sanchez, we have made efforts; it is not working, and when it matters, he fails to support the club, so we need to seek another option.”
Should the Blues choose to continue with Sanchez, the goalkeeper will have an opportunity to amend his errors when they face Luton Town in the second round of the EFL Cup on Thursday.
