Manchester City manager, Enzo Maresca, has responded to Enzo Fernandez’s claim that he always dreamt of joining a big club like Manchester City.

Fernandez made the claim following his transfer from Chelsea to the Cityzens this summer.

The Argentina international completed his move to Manchester City on deadline day for a reported British record-equalling transfer fee of £125 million, signing a five-year contract with the club.

Following his contentious transfer, Fernandez upset some Stamford Bridge supporters by stating that he had always dreamt of playing for a prestigious club like Manchester City.

Fernandez was quoted by ESPN as telling the Cityzens’ official website: “I am truly delighted to be here. I have always dreamt to be part of a club as big as City. I am thankful for this opportunity.

“This is a very emotional moment for both me and my family, as I take this step at 25 years old in a football career I have always envisioned. I am thrilled to be here, relishing these initial hours at the club. I can already perceive the magnitude of this club, and I look forward to enjoying our time together and achieving numerous victories.”

Maresca, who managed Fernandez during his tenure at Chelsea from June 2024 to January 2026, slightly disagreed with the Argentina international.

Maresca was quoted by Fabrizio Romano as saying: “In my opinion, he was at a big club in Chelsea, and now he joins a big club in Man City.”

Fernandez made 170 appearances for the Blues across all competitions, netting 31 goals and providing 30 assists.

The 25-year-old also played a crucial role in helping his former team secure the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.
