England goalkeeper Hampton signs new Chelsea contract

Hannah Hampton has ended speculation regarding her future by signing a new two-year contract with Chelsea.

Hampton’s previous deal with the Blues expired at the end of 2025-26, leaving her free to discuss terms with other clubs.

Having joined from Aston Villa in 2023, Hampton has made 50 Women’s Super League appearances for Chelsea, emerging as the first-choice goalkeeper at club and international level during that time.

She helped Chelsea win WSL titles in 2023-24 and 2024-25, extending their dominant run in the English top flight to six years, before they finished a disappointing third in 2025-26.

Hampton has also won one FA Cup and two League Cups with Chelsea, while she played a key role as England retained their European Championship crown last year, saving two penalties as Sarina Wiegman’s team beat world champions Spain in a final shoot-out.

News of Hampton’s extension comes after experienced defender Lucy Bronze penned a new one-year deal with the Blues earlier this month, though forward Sam Kerr returned to Gotham FC on a free transfer.

Hampton told the club’s website: “I’m really happy. Chelsea have always been my dream club to play for in England, so to be able to extend for another two years is a proud moment.

“When I moved to London from the Midlands, it was my first time moving away from home and everyone at Chelsea made it feel like a home away from home, and somewhere I have been able to grow, not only as a player but as a person.

“I don’t want that journey to stop, and I want to continue to grow more and learn more as a person.

“I am happy, but I know there is so much more I can achieve and so much more we can achieve as a team. 

“I am going to do everything I can to help Chelsea get back to being as successful as we have been in the past.”

Hampton appeared in 18 of Chelsea’s 22 WSL games last season, having been an ever-present in 2024-25 and played 10 times in 2023-24, when Ann-Katrin Berger and Zecira Musovic were still competing with her for the number one shirt.

In 2025-26, she kept the joint-most clean sheets in the WSL with seven, alongside Manchester City’s Ayaka Yamashita and Manchester United’s Phallon Tullis-Joyce.

Hampton’s save percentage of 74.24% was the second-best of any goalkeeper to play at least 10 WSL games, behind Brighton’s Chiamaka Nnadozie (74.7%).

And, according to Opta’s expected goals on target (xGoT) model, Hampton prevented 1.9 goals, conceding 16 times (excluding penalties and own goals) from 17.9 xGoT faced. 

The 2026-27 WSL fixtures will be released on Thursday, with Chelsea going into a season as challengers, rather than champions, for the first time since 2019-20.
