England’s national team doesn’t start its World Cup journey until June 17. Still, the side remains in the spotlight — this time for reasons unrelated to its off-the-field exploits.

The Three Lions were the subject of a heist, seeing various pieces of equipment — including star players’ cleats — disappear under their watch.

Here’s what we know so far about the heist, as well as those who were particularly affected.

England equipment theft, explained

Some of England’s star talents were the victim of a minor heist prior to their first training session in Kansas City.

The theft took place while the Three Lions’ cargo was in transit from West Palm Beach, Fla. to Missouri, the site of England’s temporary HQ. According to the Daily Mail, “only one football was left” when the heist was discovered. There are also online rumors that Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham’s boots vanished, though those have not been confirmed by established news sources.

“We are investigating a possible theft of equipment from a team vehicle that arrived in Kansas City with items missing this evening,” the Kansas City Police Department said in a statement. “The investigation is ongoing.”
