Elijah Corrin is Stark County Boys Tennis Player of the Year

McKinley senior Elijah Corrin is the Stark County Boys Tennis Player of the Year.

Corrin ended a four-year run as one of the county’s top players by reaching the OHSAA Division I state tournament and winning a first-round match before falling in a competitive match to eventual state champion Greg Bernadsky, a senior from Mason.

Corrin won a Division I sectional title before finishing as the district runner-up to earn his return trip to the state tournament. He was the Federal League Player of the Year after his unbeaten regular season.

Corrin went 32-2 overall this season and finished his McKinley career with a record of 114-20.

The all-county team was selected by county coaches.

Singles players joining Corrin on the first team are Jackson senior Roshan Patel, Lake junior Ethan Base, Jackson sophomore Kahan Patel, and Hoover sophomore Josh Blake.

First-team doubles honorees are seniors Quinn Lokie and Manav Rawal of Jackson, senior JP Moorehead and junior Dylan Kolarik of Lake, and junior John Kabbara and sophomore Rohan Ramalingan of Jackson.

At tournament time, Kahan Patel and Roshan Patel paired up in doubles, made it to the state tournament, and won a match before falling to eventual state champions Carson Dwyer and Nihal Narisetty of Cincinnati St. Xavier.

Sharing county coach of the year honors are Brett Marlowe of Jackson and Jim Pukys of McKinley.

  • Second-team singles: Perry senior Brantley Stangelo, Louisville senior Gabe Stoffer, Marlington senior Finn Hassenzhal, Canton South senior Blayten Young, Jackson sophomore Dominic Brescia, GlenOak sophomore Eli Smith

  • Second-team doubles: Senior Luke Hillyer and sophomore Eli Fonner of Hoover, junior James Hoffman and sophomore Stone Barnes of GlenOak, senior Jacob Baker and junior Henry Snyder of McKinley

  • Honorable mention singles: Lake senior Erik Neely, Hoover junior E.J. Enrique, Alliance senior Aiden Kern, Central Catholic junior Tommy Wolf, GlenOak sophomore Luke Johnson, McKinley junior Carter Tolin

  • Honorable mention doubles: Seniors Josh Trent and Isaac Hershberger of Lake, seniors Justice Altman and Logan Demos of Louisville, senior Tyson Kennard and junior John O’Donnell of Hoover

Honorable mention singles: Lake senior Erik Neely, Hoover junior E.J. Enrique, Alliance senior Aiden Kern, Central Catholic junior Tommy Wolf, GlenOak sophomore Luke Johnson, McKinley junior Carter Tolin
