Electricity: Nigerian Govt begins construction of 1.5MW solar energy mini-grid in Plateau

The Federal Government has announced the commencement of the construction of a 1.5MW interconnected solar energy mini-grid in Pankshin, Plateau State.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Rural Electrification Agency, REA, on Tuesday.

Commenting on the 1.5MW mini-grid electricity initiative, the REA Managing Director, Abba Aliyu, emphasized that the Pankshin facility is part of a larger national rollout involving 48 interconnected mini-grids across the country.

He noted that the project aims to improve power quality, reduce technical losses and provide reliable electricity to drive local agro-processing, healthcare and commercial enterprises.

Aliyu also hailed Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for creating a favorable environment for private power investments.

He added that the project will create opportunities for economic growth by ensuring that electricity becomes a tool for production rather than simply consumption.
