Ekiti declares Friday work-free ahead of governorship election

Ekiti State Government has declared Friday as a work-free day for public servants and civil servants ahead of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday.

The announcement was made on Thursday in a statement issued by the Head of Service, Dr Folakemi Olomojobi, who said the approval was granted by Governor Biodun Oyebanji to enable workers travel to their respective voting locations in preparation for the election holding on June 20, 2026.

According to the government, the directive is aimed at encouraging full participation in the electoral process across the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Office of Establishment, Dr Funke Ajibola, who signed the circular, noted that the holiday does not apply to essential service providers.

She explained that hospitals, health centres, fire service departments and other critical agencies are exempted and are expected to maintain normal operations to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.

“All heads of the exempted institutions are to make necessary duty arrangements to ensure continuous service delivery. Chief Executive Officers and Accounting Officers are to ensure compliance with this circular and give it the widest publicity within their respective organisations,” she stated.

The government further urged affected agencies to ensure proper coordination so that essential public services remain unaffected during the holiday period.
