Eisenkot criticizes Netanyahu over US-backed Hamas disarmament proposal

Yashar Party chairman Gadi Eisenkot has criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the US-backed Hamas disarmament proposal announced on Thursday, accusing the government of abandoning its stated war objectives.

In a post on social media, Eisenkot said Israelis were once again learning about a major national security development through foreign media rather than their own government, arguing that the reported agreement exposes what he described as a wide gap between Netanyahu’s promises and his actions.

He further claimed that, despite the heavy human cost of the war, including the deaths of Israeli soldiers and injuries sustained by many others, the prime minister had yielded without fully achieving the objectives set at the outset of the conflict.

Eisenkot warned that allowing Hamas to remain in any position of influence in Gaza would pose a serious security risk, arguing that Israel must not accept a situation in which the group survives, rebuilds its military capabilities, and is able to launch future attacks.

He concluded by saying Israelis deserve leadership that is transparent, remains committed to its goals, and secures lasting security.

Eisenkot, however, did not specify which aspects of the reported US-backed proposal he opposed.
