Egor Demin could change the Nets' season if he diversifies his offense

Brooklyn Nets guard Egor Demin had a solid rookie season where he showed a significant amount of his potential, especially when it comes to his shooting ability at the NBA level. Brooklyn has to be feeling good about selecting Demin with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, but does he have to switch up his offensive approach during the 2026-27 campaign?

“Egor Demin was by far the best of the Nets’ rookies last season, averaging 10.3 points per game and a solid assist-to-turnover ratio while making 38.5% of his 3-pointers,” Zach Kram wrote about Demin for ESPN. Kram’s article was based on picking one stat for each of the 30 NBA teams that could define their individual seasons and he believes that Demin could stand to vary his offensive game in some way.

“That latter statistic is especially encouraging for a player with shooting questions entering the NBA,” Kram continued. “But Demin didn’t find many ways to score other than 3-pointers, as 72% of his shot attempts last season were 3s. That was the 16th-highest rate out of 279 players with at least 1,000 minutes last season — the three players immediately ahead of him were shooting specialists Klay Thompson, Gary Trent Jr. and Landry Shamet.

Demin, 20, is coming off a 2025-26 NBA season where he averaged 10.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game while shooting 39.9% from the field and 38.5% from behind the three-point line. While Demin attempted plenty of three-pointers (6.2 per game) at a solid clip, he shot just 2.4 shots inside the three-point line (43.3%) and attempted just 1.3 free-throws per game.

During Demin’s time in the summer league this offseason, he showed that he was looking to be more effective driving to the rim and it led to him shooting 3.4 free-throws per contest. Heading into this season, Demin will be sharing the floor with forwards Michael Porter Jr. and Julius Randle so the former BYU Cougar will have plenty of chances to show the rest of his game outside of his long-range shooting.
