EFCC transfers recovered hostel items to Education Ministry for Unity Schools

Receiving the items, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, commended the EFCC for intensifying efforts against corruption, particularly procurement fraud and cyber-related offences.

He described education as a critical pillar of the Federal Government’s economic development agenda, noting that investments in the sector would play a vital role in achieving sustainable national growth.

The minister disclosed that the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, admitted about 3,000 students during its first academic session and is projected to enrol more than 5,000 students in its second year.

He further revealed that the initial ₦50 billion seed capital used to establish NELFUND came from recovered proceeds of crime, describing the initiative as an example of how illicitly acquired funds can be redirected to support national development.

Alausa said the hostel facilities donated by the EFCC would help improve accommodation in Federal Unity Colleges, adding that the ministry would ensure the items are effectively utilised to enhance students’ welfare.

He reiterated the ministry’s commitment to deploying recovered public assets in ways that improve access to quality education and strengthen learning environments across the country.

The handover forms part of the Federal Government’s broader policy of channeling forfeited assets into projects that deliver tangible benefits to citizens, particularly within the education sector.
