Ederson to Man United deal facing last-minute collapse

· · 2 min read

Ederson to Manchester United is facing a last-minute collapse, given the latest reports on this transfer.

The Brazilian midfielder was expected to be United’s first summer signing. Even before the World Cup kicked off, reports emerged that Atalanta and Manchester United had reached an agreement for his transfer.

For €45 million (£38 million), the Samba star was set to leave Bergamo for Manchester. As a long-term United target for many, this deal should have left supporters satisfied.

Doubts over Ederson signing

However, some worry that, like Manuel Ugarte, he may fail to crack the Premier League. Furthermore, given he was a late call-up to Brazil’s World Cup squad after Wesley suffered an injury, his medical is yet to take place despite the club-to-club agreement.

As a result, some are now lobbying United to pull out of the deal, with a chance still remaining to do so. And while credible sources insist the deal will go through, transfer guru Ben Jacobs has dropped a bombshell on the Ederson situation.

He reports: “Manchester United to conduct thorough medical exams on Ederson before determining whether to proceed with a €45m deal.

“Clarity expected soon now the World Cup has finished.”

Genuine chance this deal falls through

Jacobs, however, does not exude confidence over the deal’s chances. Probably United have learnt something of the player’s fitness that we do not know.

Ederson will be hoping all goes well with his medical, and it should.

Despite striking an agreement with Chelsea for Andrey Santos, it would be unwise for United to pull the plug on the Ederson deal.

United are struggling to land their top midfield targets, and Ederson is a decent central midfielder who deserves a chance.

With him and Santos, United will be just one midfielder away from assembling an engine room that Michael Carrick can trust and rely on.

That said, as Jacobs puts it, supporters must wait and see whether Ederson eventually signs for United.
