Eli Stowers seemed like a great draft pick for the Philadelphia Eagles.

They drafted the athletic tight end in the second round a couple months ago, bringing aboard a player who should be a logical long-term replacement for Dallas Goedert.

In the early going, though, Stowers hasn’t been that impressive.

To be fair to Stowers, it’s June, and the big moments are a long way away.

But this is what Eagles writer Brandon Gowton wrote on Tuesday:

“It’s been a very quiet spring for Eli Stowers. With (Grant) Calcaterra out today, one would’ve expected more opportunity for the Eagles’ second-round pick. But the rookie tight end was invisible.”

The aforementioned Calcaterra, along with Goedert, will probably make Stowers a bit of an afterthought as a rookie. He’ll have to do his improving during the week, and maybe get occasional opportunities on Sundays.

Goedert’s contract is for just a year, though. If the Eagles see enough out of Stowers, they could move on to the younger TE for the 2027 season.

This is also just one observer’s viewpoint, and it’s hard to know what kind of impression Stowers is really making within the Philly building.

The hope for Philadelphia fans will be that Stowers starts to make it all look smooth and simple on the field, as he so often did at Vandy.

Time is still on Stowers’ side, so there’s no reason to lose the high hopes for him yet. But he probably could’ve gotten off to a better start than this.
