Eagles could make an OC change soon: 3 options to replace Sean Mannion
Following the game, Eagles coach Nick Sirianni was asked whether he would demote or fire offensive coordinator Sean Mannion after another poor offensive showing.
Sirianni didn’t exactly defend Mannion, leaving room for interpretation that the Eagles could be considering an offensive coordinator change.
“I’m not thinking about any of that stuff right now,” Sirianni said after the game. “We need to get better as a whole, and I got a lot of faith in everybody in that locker room. I got a lot of faith in the coaches in that locker room. I’ll keep it at that.”
This past offseason, the Eagles hired Mannion to bring in a new scheme that they hoped would ignite a stagnant offense, but Mannion’s play-calling has not been transformational.
Instead, Philadelphia’s offense has become even worse under Mannion.
The Eagles managed 10 points against the Commanders, who had allowed the second-worst points-per-game average (28.7) over the first seven weeks of the season. Mannion’s offense converted only 5 of 15 third-down attempts, allowed five sacks for a loss of 35 yards and rushed for only 91 yards.
Mannion’s offense was a disaster again.
The Eagles entered their Week 8 matchup against the Commanders ranked near the bottom in every offensive category, which reflects poorly on Mannion. During Mannion’s first season, circumstances have not been easy: the Eagles lost starting quarterback Jalen Hurts to a season-ending injury and right tackle Lane Johnson to retirement, among other problems.
But Mannion has struggled to elevate lesser talent with a creative scheme. Mannion’s players have struggled to execute his concepts, which suggests his coaching points are not resonating.
Growing pains were expected, but it is past that point now. Mannion is not a good play-caller.
Here are three in-house candidates who could replace Mannion:
Pass game coordinator Josh Grizzard
Grizzard is the most obvious choice to supplant Mannion as the Eagles’ play-caller. He interviewed for the Eagles’ offensive coordinator job this offseason before the team hired Mannion.
Grizzard made a good impression during his interviews, which helped him earn a role on the offensive staff. He was the Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator last season, but Tampa Bay fired him after the offense collapsed late in the season.
The Buccaneers had some good moments under Grizzard, including scoring 29, 38 and 30 points in three wins early in the 2025 season.
Grizzard could be a better offensive coordinator the next time around. Could that opportunity come soon with the Eagles? He might provide the team with more stability than Mannion.
Assistant head coach and running backs coach Jemal Singleton
Singleton has never called plays in the NFL or at the college level, so he’s a long shot to replace Mannion.

If Eagles fire Nick Sirianni, here are 5 candidates to replace him, including ex-Philly coachNov. 2, 2026, 7:47 a.m.
However, Singleton is well respected inside the Eagles’ building and has been due for a bigger role. He developed the Eagles’ backup running backs, Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley, into decent contributors before they were placed on injured reserve this season. Shipley took a big step from his second to his third season, and Bigsby continued to show immense promise.
Quarterbacks coach Parks Frazier
Frazier is another long shot to replace Mannion, but he’s more likely to get the job than Singleton. He called plays as the Colts’ interim offensive coordinator during the 2022 NFL season.
