€100m bid is in: Liverpool desperate to move on from Alexander Isak mistake

· · 2 min read

Liverpool and Richard Hughes are eager to move on from their mistake with Alexander Isak. A €100m bid is now in.

Liverpool broke their transfer record twice in 2025, first with Florian Wirtz and then again with Alexander Isak. The Isak deal was extra special, too, as it also broke the overall British transfer record.

However, the process of completing that deal has been an absolute disaster. It looked terrible at the time, of course, with Liverpool waiting all summer long before signing the Swede at the last minute – literally on deadline day.

They’d finally got their man, though, and that was okay. Surely?

No, as it turned out. The drawn out process left Isak on the sidelines at Newcastle United, essentially on strike as he tried to force through the move. He didn’t have a pre-season and arrived at Liverpool woefully unprepared.

The result was a terrible debut season for a £130m player. The delay proved disastrous and that’s something the Reds reportedly hope to learn from.

Ben Jacobs tells TalkSport that Liverpool have now bid €100m for Yan Diomande. This is something that’s been reported elsewhere, of course, and RB Leipzig have rejected the offer, which was €80m up front and another €20m in relatively simple bonuses.

But Jacobs makes it clear that Liverpool want to avoid that Isak mistake. They’re going to learn from it and push for this deal ASAP – it’s important for them that this doesn’t drag on any longer than it has to.

And so if RB Leipzig don’t budge, Liverpool will move on to other targets, of which they have plenty.

Yan Diomande: Situation Summary

RB Leipzig Career and Performance

As of 22 June 2026, Yan Diomande is a 19-year-old winger for RB Leipzig. Since making a prominent move from CD Leganés in July 2025, the electric Ivorian attacker has taken German football by storm. Operating primarily on the right flank, his explosive dribbling and clinical finishing made him a foundational centrepiece for his club. During a sensational 2025/26 breakout campaign, Diomande recorded 33 Bundesliga appearances, racking up 12 goals and eight assists. His stellar individual displays earned him the prestigious Bundesliga Young Player of the Season award and have triggered massive summer transfer interest from Liverpool.

International Status and World Cup Involvement

Diomande is currently in North America representing the Ivory Coast national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Handed a starting role by manager Émerse Faé, the winger earned Player of the Match honours in their opening 1–0 Group E victory over Ecuador on 14 June 2026. Despite a narrow 2–1 defeat to Germany on 20 June, he remains a key figure in their pursuit of the knockout stages.
