Duke commit earns gold medal and U17 FIBA World Cup MVP honors

Recent Duke commit Joaquim Boumtje-Boumtje helped Team USA earn a gold medal Sunday at the U17 FIBA World Cup final against Serbia. Boumtje-Boumtje dominated both the glass and the scoring once again, finishing as the team’s second leading scorer with 20 points to go along with 15 rebounds and three blocks.

As a result, the United States cruised to a 107-81 victory, and Boumtje-Boumtje took home MVP honors for the tournament. Some of his strongest outputs came in the quarterfinals and semifinals. Against Australia in the semifinals, Boumtje-Boumtje tallied 23 points and 15 rebounds. In the quarterfinals versus Puerto Rico, Boumtje-Boumtje posted 31 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks in the quarterfinals.

Now with the 2026-27 season a few months away, Duke fans will be anticipating a strong freshman year from their prized prospect.
