Duke captains ensuring no letdown against William & Mary

With a game against overmatched William & Mary coming up on Saturday, followed by a bye week before getting back into ACC play, it would be simple for Duke players and staff to take their foot off the gas just a little bit.

The Blue Devils’ captains aren’t letting that happen.

“The intensity was very high in practice today, and as a leader, the onus is upon me and the other captains, Matt and Jerry, to make sure we’re not taking a step back this week,” Nick Morris Jr., one of six Duke captains, said on Wednesday. 

And while the starters will be ready to put William & Mary in the rearview mirror as early as possible at Wallace Wade Stadium, another goal is to build a big enough lead, as they did against Stanford, to give some of the young players a chance to shine.

“I love that we took care of business against Stanford and allowed the younger guys to get in,” Morris said.
