Duke alumni updates: Boozer and Banchero square off during NBA preseason

With preseason basketball in full swing, plenty of former Duke Blue Devils took the floor for their respective NBA teams Wednesday night. How did they fare? Here are updates for every Duke alum to grace the floor.

Beginning with recent second-round pick Isaiah Evans, he played only seven minutes for the Timberwolves, scoring two points on 1-for-5 shooting as Minnesota fell to Indiana.

The Orlando Magic played their preseason opener Wednesday, meaning the Duke duo of Paolo Banchero and Wendell Carter Jr. were back in action. Banchero scored 11 points in 15 minutes to go along with five assists and one rebound. As for Carter Jr., he knocked down three 3-pointers and finished his night after tallying 13 points, four rebounds and two assists.

It was Cameron Boozer who opposed Orlando, scoring difficult buckets against the aforementioned Banchero in a narrow Memphis defeat. Boozer was sharp still, finishing with 16 points, six rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes.

In the closest contest of the night, the Thunder fell to the Milwaukee Bucks. That said, Jared McCain put in a double-digit scoring effort off the bench for Oklahoma City, tallying 11 points, two assists and one rebound.

When the Phoenix Suns took on the Chicago Bulls, both Luke Kennard and Khaman Maluach finished with eight points and four assists off the bench for Phoenix. As expected, Maluach was a bit better on the glass, grabbing seven rebounds as well. Both Tre Jones (Chicago) and Mark Williams (Phoenix) were inactive due to injury.

Looking ahead, former Duke star and No. 3 overall pick Jayson Tatum will start his preseason Thursday as the Celtics face the Cavaliers.
