Dover's Geffen Adorian, PCA's Molly Marquis win Athlete of Week honors

The Seacoast high school Athletes of the Week for Sept. 28-Oct. 3 are Dover High School boys soccer player Geffen Adorian and Portsmouth Christian Academy girls volleyball player Molly Marquis.

Adorian joins previous boys winners this fall season: Dover High School football player Ben King, Portsmouth/Oyster River football player Tommy Allen, Winnacunnet High School boys soccer player Jed Ziolkowski and Exeter High School quarterback Tyler Ream.

Marquis joins previous girls winners this fall season: Somersworth High School volleyball player Emily Runions, St. Thomas Aquinas High School soccer player Grace Cayer-Salema, Winnacunnet High School girl soccer player Evyn Christie and Exeter High School girls soccer player Brynn Anderson.

The weekly polls run each Monday through midnight Thursday, and can be found at seacoastonline.com/sports and fosters.com/sports.

Adorian won the online poll by receiving nearly 33% of the votes, totaling 289. Oyster River golfer Joey Alvarez finished second with 199 votes.

York soccer player Marcus Zietala had 157 votes, St. Thomas Aquinas soccer player Ryan Dyer had 143 votes and Somersworth football player Kaleb Hefler had 100 votes, to round out the five nominees.

Adorian scored three goals to help lead Dover to a 7-1 Division I win over Timberlane on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

Marquis won the online poll by receiving 44% of the votes, totaling 3,644 . Dover soccer player Kathleen Lynch finished second with 3,267 votes.

Marshwood soccer player Brooklyn Smith had 647 votes, Winnnacunnet volleyball player Emily Pitfick had 489 votes and Newmarket soccer player Dimitra Zygouri had 237 votes, to round out the five nominees.

Marquis had eight kills, five aces and 12 digs in PCA’s 3-2 win over Farmington on Thursday, Oct. 1, and had 13 digs, six aces and five kills in PCA’s 3-2 loss to Mascenic on Monday, Sept. 28.

“So happy or Molly to have received this recognition,” PCA head coach Kevin Carreiro said. “On a week that saw the Eagles play their toughest stretch, Molly definitely rose to the challenge, leading the team both offensively and defensively. This is a well deserved award.”
