Door opened: Liverpool finally have green light to sign “unstoppable” winger
Liverpool have received fresh encouragement in their pursuit of Bradley Barcola after Paris Saint-Germain added even more competition to an already crowded attack.
The Reds have spent much of the summer trying to find an agreement for the 23-year-old, but PSG’s valuation of around £145 million has repeatedly stalled negotiations.
That situation could now change after the French champions strengthened with Mika Godts, Maghnes Akliouche and Ferran Torres, leaving Barcola facing an increasingly difficult battle for regular minutes.
Liverpool are preparing another Barcola move
According to The Standard, Liverpool are expected to return with another offer after PSG completed the signing of Godts from Ajax.
The Belgian winger has signed a five-year contract, with the deal potentially worth around £47 million.
Barcola is already understood to be attracted by the idea of joining Liverpool, while PSG’s latest recruitment could make an exit more realistic. He was an unused substitute during the 2-1 UEFA Super Cup victory over Aston Villa, with new arrival Akliouche starting instead.
PSG have also officially signed Ferran Torres from Barcelona for a reported €50m, further increasing Luis Enrique’s options across the frontline.
Luis Enrique also appeared to leave the door open to unhappy players moving on, saying: “when a player doesn’t have a smile when coming here, it’s better to look for another solution.”
Enrique has praised Barcola in the past by calling him “unstoppable“.
Reds should push again but for a reasonable fee
The latest developments clearly strengthen Liverpool’s hand.
PSG now have Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Désiré Doué, Akliouche, Torres and Godts competing for attacking roles, so holding Barcola at an inflated valuation becomes harder to justify if his minutes are reduced.
Liverpool, meanwhile, need another elite winger and Barcola fits perfectly. He offers pace, directness and one-on-one ability, while his age means he could become a major part of Andoni Iraola’s attack for years.
The problem remains the price. Even with PSG’s growing attacking depth, £145m is an enormous figure.
Liverpool should therefore make another serious offer without losing financial discipline. The circumstances have shifted in their favour, and PSG may eventually have to compromise.
