Don’t panic when you hear gunshots – Police tells Jigawa residents ‎

The Jigawa State Police Command has urged residents of the state not to panic over the sound of gunshots as it conducts a shooting range exercise for its personnel in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.

This was contained‎ In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, issued to DAILY POST.

He said the training was aimed at enhancing the capacity, professionalism, combat readiness and operational effectiveness of police personnel in the discharge of their constitutional duties.

‎He explained that, the exercise, scheduled for Sunday, August 2, 2026, will take place at the CP AT Abdullahi Shooting Range in Tsohon Gari and forms part of the command’s routine operational training and firearms proficiency programme

‎The police assured residents, particularly those in Tsohon Gari and surrounding communities, that the exercise would be carried out in a controlled and secured environment under strict supervision.

‎”The public should not panic upon hearing gunshots during the period of the exercise, as the firing will be conducted in a controlled and secured environment,” the statement said.

‎The command also advised residents to avoid the immediate vicinity of the shooting range throughout the duration of the exercise to ensure public safety and facilitate the smooth conduct of the training.

‎According to the police, the exercise is intended to improve the operational competence of officers and strengthen their readiness to protect lives and property across the state.

‎The command appreciated the understanding, cooperation and continued support of the people of Jigawa State and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents while continuously improving the professional competence of its personnel.
